Broomlands Farm is just down the road from Alison and a large swift colony used to live in the farmhouse roof. The roof was repaired just as swifts were returning to breed and consequently the colony was lost. A familiar story and partly why swifts are now red listed as their numbers have declined by 50% in recent years. Thankfully a few swifts now nest at the farmhouse next door but their nest site is not safe from roof repairs.
